Celebrating 175 Years of PV

Community Album/Book

help us celebrate 175 years

As we prepare for our city’s 175th birthday, the Pleasant View Heritage Foundation would like your help in creating the perfect gift. Our hope is to produce a community scrapbook filled with fun images, interesting stories, meaningful memories, and creative perspectives from the distant and recent past.

Help us by gathering memories, photos, documents, and anecdotes. These artifacts can represent any person, place, event, item, or situation within the last 175 years of Pleasant View history.  Send us what you find or create!

Every photo, every keepsake, every memory helps tell the story of us.

What Can I SUbmit?

Because our end goal is to create an album or a book, community submissions should be in the form of a photo or a document. However, the artifacts themselves (and stories about them) can be almost anything from the last 175 years of Pleasant View! Here are a few ideas to get you thinking:

  • People (recent or historical, famous or infamous)
  • Special Occasions (parties, weddings, city celebrations)
  • Newspaper Clippings (old ads, articles, images)
  • Iconic Places (buildings, landmarks, special spots)
  • Businesses (origin stories, cards, ads, letterhead, invoices)
  • Artisan Showcase (items crafted by PV residents)
  • Holidays/Seasons (sledding, harvest time, summer activities)
  • Having Fun (staying entertained, spending time together)
  • Childhood (what it was like growing up in PV)
  • Innovations/Tech (cool ideas, party phone lines, internet)
  • School Spirit (old rivalries, school bands, cheerleading)
  • Historic Events (Great Depression, WWII, earthquakes)
  • Shenanigans (good-natured pranks, getting into trouble)
  • Shows of Community (when PV residents banded together)
  • Unique Items (pets, keepsakes, art, old cars, handmade clothing, etc.)

If it connects to Pleasant View’s history or heart, we’d love to see it.

Tell us the Story

Every artifact has a story behind it, and we’re depending on you to help us uncover it. When you make a submission using our form, give us as much detail as you can! Here is an example of what that might look like.

Description/Caption:

“Weldon Cragun delivering a bushel of fresh peaches from his farm to his sister, Jean Pulsipher. (1998)”

Additional Context:

“Weldon was born and raised in Pleasant View, and was the owner of a large fruit farm that was affectionately known by many as ‘The Good Earth.’ He was often seen wearing an outfit like the one seen here, which the family nicknamed ‘darmer pants’ after one of the grandkids misprounounced “farmer pants” and the name stuck….” (continued)

Sourcing Info:

“This photo was taken by Weldon’s sister, Lou Jean Pulsipher, and was later kept in the Weldon Cragun family archives.”
