the Edwin Humphreys Family

Edwin Humphreys immigrated from England arriving in Utah on November 6, 1856, and settled with his parents George and Harriet Humphreys, and their other 5 children in Pleasant View.  Most of the family soon returned to Kanas to join family there except Edwin who went back and forth assisting other pioneer groups to cross the plains.  After returning Edwin lived with Amos Maycock and helped with the farming. In about 1876 at age 38 he married Mary Jewett and purchased a 25-acre piece of land across the street from Maycocks. He was also able to purchase an additional 120 acres further up the bench from the government.

Edwin moved an old log cabin from Maycocks to his land and set up housekeeping also working hard to farm the land.  They added two additional rooms to the Cabin and began having their family.  Mary loved babies but her life was hard as 5 of their 7 children died in childhood. As time passed the home was filled with music and Edwin played the violin and the kids sang.  Edwin also loved to make Ice Cream in a churn to the beat of the music.  Edwin Humphreys passed away in 1916 at age 78.
