Founders Day Celebrations

2022 Founders Day Celebrations

On June 23, 2022, around 100 local citizens enjoyed more than an hour of stories of Pleasant View’s first eight government leaders. Pleasant View City was established on August 27, 1945 by the State of Utah. The number of citizens in the designated city determined it would be governed by a Town Council. To the right is a chronological listing of those leaders.

Family members of deceased leaders spoke in their behalf. Timothy Healy and Ron Horton were present for their reports. Each person spoke of accomplishments of their administration.

Below you can review the slide presentation that covered their accomplishments.

The 2022 Goose Chase Results

The Foundation also sponsored this year’s Goose Chase. The PV City had supported it the first two years and the Foundation volunteered to take it over for 2022.

See the statistics on the right. Prizes totaling $475.00 were awarded to those teams that completed the majority of the “missions” and who benefited from learning more about our community.

2021 Founders Day Celebrations

On June 24, 2021,  over 150 local citizens enjoyed two hours of stories about Pleasant View. The two-hour session included stories from memories of those who are descendent from legacy families and more recent stories (the 1900s) of those who experienced life in Pleasant View.

And added to that, local Daughters of  Utah Pioneers members Trudy Iverson and Lola Buhrley, using artifacts from the North Ogden Historical Museum, decorated the cabin with period furniture and utensils of those who lived at that time.

In addition, Landry Rosskelly brought his handmade tepee and many American Indian artifacts that he had made. He displayed and described them as visitors toured his tepee.

We also had a continuous-running video of “Building a Foundation – The First 50 years of Pleasant View” that was performed and recorded in 2010 by Pleasant View members and friends of legacy families. To top it off, we provided free ice cream for all who attended!

Then on June 24, the “official” Founders Day for Pleasant View, the traditional morning parade was held. the Foundation provided two entries in the parade.

Here is a summary of our activities in support of the 2021 Founders Day activities as reported to the PV City and Heritage Foundation Members by Jerry Burns.

Dear Friends,

May I express heart-felt appreciation and gratitude for your efforts and success with our activities associated with the Pleasant View Founder’s Day Celebration.  The “Stories at the Cabin” event on Thursday evening was excellent.  Lynn Humphreys and his group of storytellers Including; Mark Stewart, Barbara Jones Christensen, Helen Humphreys Pettingill, Donna Dickamore Penrod, Gary Rhees, Paul Ellsworth, and Dewy Depoma, held peoples interest and increased their knowledge for our Pleasant View Heritage for two hours.  The members of the local Daughters of the Utah Pioneers provided furnishings for the Hickenlooper Cabin.  They made you feel like you might want to sit down visit with your great-grandma for a while. The Wadman family provided over 250 servings of Ice cream and Landery Rosskelly’s Native American Teepee exhibition was the best. Thank you also to Jim Cummings for overseeing the slide show historical review. Over 150 people of all ages participated in the evening’s event with many sharing expressions of gratitude and appreciation for the quality of the event.

The Heritage Foundation entry in Saturday’s parade received a First Place Trophy thanks to the efforts of Collette and Tim Healy and their manny associates. Sonny Thompson’s two truck beds, Larry Crouch’s hand cart, a dozen float riders some members of the City Youth Council all participated in the success.

The “Founding Family” yard signs with their QR codes linked to the upgraded Pleasant View Heritage website received over 420 hits and provided 120+ “Goose Chase” gamers with additional historical knowledge and entertainment.

Thank you to everyone who assisted for your tremendous efforts, sacrifice, and overwhelming success.

We appreciate the Mayor and City Council for hosting a super successful Founder’s Day.  It is an annual reminder of the tremendous heritage we enjoy in Pleasant View!

Thank you again for your tremendous efforts
Jerry Burns,
